They don't require much help acquiring resources or developing goals for learning French because, in most cases, they have done this before and already have reasons for being in school again. Another benefit of self-directed learning is that adult students can design their studies around their preferred visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. Visual learners rely on pictures. Auditory learners listen carefully when they are learning and draw the majority of new knowledge through their ears and value much conversation and dialogues. Things make the most sense to them when they are told how something should be. Adult learners need to physically do something to understand it. Relevance of Material Interest to our Adult Students
Our French teachers, teaching in our school, know that most adult students are likely to want to learn about subjects that will have immediate payoffs in their life, especially as it will have an influence on their social roles. As adults start to navigate and consider marriage, parenthood, career positions, French learning and other complex roles, they begin to orient and focus themselves exclusively to them.
Adults have little use for material that is not relevant to the roles they already occupy, and this is another reason for allowing adult students to play a part in designing their own curriculum. For example, some of our learners will want to learn about career advancement, but some, perhaps retired participants or stay-at-home parents, will not need this information.
The process of adult learning is to get to know students well enough to be able to teach to their roles. We always keep in mind that our adult students, at our French school want to accomplish something and probably have busy lives. Our Adult learners hardly desire to learn about material that doesn't fit into their lives and they do not usually want their learning to be abstract either. Adults are practised, knowledgeable, and flexible learners that have a lot of problems to solve. Unlike young students, they do not usually need long to think about unfamiliar subjects before trying a skill out for themselves because they exercise their problem-solving skills every day and learn more each time.
Our French teachers know how to tailor their instruction to specific problems that their adult students face rather than approaching their teaching one subject at a time. The act of learning or attaining knowledge is about spending more time on doing actively. The learning and quality of instruction are much more important than topic coverage. That is why each of our French teachers encourages, provokes, listens and corrects during the lessons.
Motivation to Learn is the key issue to success
Forget about your inhibitions, your long-time forgotten French skills you had once upon the time. Course
- 2, 3 or 4 weeks, 6 hrs/day - 30 lessons/week, Monday-Friday - Three experienced teachers share the group - Max. 8 students in the morning - Max. 3 students in the afternoon
Instruction
The afternoon session takes place downtown in a garden or on the terrace of our restaurant
Here, you will discuss subjects from the early morning course and discuss topics of personal interest with the teacher. A syllabus will be drawn up "à la carte" on any subject matter you need. The aim is to achieve a greater spontaneity in speech, idiom and oral expression. The entire session is devoted to spoken French.
